Scarcity and Creativity Studio (SCS)

The Scarcity and Creativity Studio (SCS) is a design and build studio within the Oslo School of Architecture and Design (AHO) whose focus is on ‘translations from drawing to building’. The studio’s aim is to expose students to the full architectural process, from interacting with the clients to building their designs. SCS seeks challenging contexts in which local conditions and creativity are employed to make the most of scarce resources
The objectives of AHO are primarily didactic; to provide students with the experience of reflecting on, designing for, and building for real, contemporary sensibilities and needs.

Digital Fabrication Workshop

The goal of the course is to introduce the students to digital fabrication. At the completion of the course they will understand the basics of the CNC (computer numerical control) technology and its relevance to architecture. They will also develop the ability to apply this understanding in practice.

The course will consist of three complementary components: CNC technology, 3D computer modelling, and investigation of materials. The teaching and learning method for this course is based on the ‘hands-on’ model. The students will design, experiment, and make their design. The finals will be done with the collaboration of Fellesverksted’s staff and facilities.

A lecture was given by Christoph Schindler, which heads the BA Object Design at Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts. You can find more about him in collaborations.

Småbruk: a design for three pocket farms and a barn

The Scarcity Studio is based on team work to develop a project for the Nes kommune.
The intention is to lease or sell the sites to families who want to live in a totally rural setting, having the possibility to do a limited amount of agricultural activities, and yet be close enough to Oslo to be able to commute.
